One Year Coronaversary

Updated: Mar 23, 2021

Raise your hand if you thought the restrictions that came along with Covid-19 being declared a pandemic just a little over a year ago would have lasted about three months. Yeah, me too. March 11th last year marked a significant change for all of us, we were catapulted into this new normal that we didn't anticipate would still be standard an entire year later. March 2020 was the genesis of a harsh reality check, the start of an economic shake up and who can forget the great toilet paper shortage of 2020? Social distancing, excessive hand washing, mask wearing, police ticketing, businesses closing, jobs ending, numbers rising, media gaslighting, healthcare systems failing, people dying...that has been our reality for the past year.

For healthcare workers on the frontline I would imagine this experience feels like the ultimate test of endurance. If you're a working parent we know its been particularly rough, from having children at home 24/7 to managing the intricacies of online schooling as if you're the one back in school, all while striving to keep a job is no small feat. For anyone actively working during the pandemic I can certainly say there is the fear of actually contracting the virus as well as passing it on to vulnerable family members.

In hindsight it seems tremendously overwhelming but as humans, our innate ability to adapt is nothing short of amazing. Our natural instinct to seek interaction despite having to socially distance has made even the least tech savvy people turn to technology and social media to connect with friends and family. From drive-by baby showers to Zoom birthday parties, people undoubtedly found innovate ways to socialize.

Despite the multitude of issues we have faced in the past year there is nevertheless so much to be thankful for. If the Coronaversary met you still employed or in a new job, if your business is still operational or you started a new business, if your relationship is stable or your family is well and taken care of , if your children can participate in online schooling and their education isn't affected, not to mention if you're safe and healthy, you're more fortunate than most. Keep on keeping on, we WILL get though this!

It was a very frightening experience, still is. But thank god my friends and family were completely safe. It also made us realize not to take anything for granted
