Unmotivated? Time to Own Your Goals

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

It's April, 2019 and it feels like just yesterday we were planning New Year's parties and making resolutions. I opted not to make resolutions but rather set small goals that may be more achievable on a daily or weekly basis. I would be lying if I said it's not a challenge but here are some tips I've implemented to help stay on top of it.

(1) Writing it down- There's something about seeing your goals on paper in your own handwriting, it's so much more personal. Put it in a place where you can see it everyday so you have a daily reminder of the things you have to achieve.

(2) Make a Goal Chart- Businesses implement sales charts that require a daily quota to be met so that a monthly target profit can be achieved, why not treat your dreams the same? After all, it's an investment in yourself which constitutes a profit at the end.

(3) Surround yourself with like minded individuals- There's nothing more annoying than talking passionately about something with someone who has no clue what you're talking about. Find yourself in a network of people who share similar ideas and interests, connect with groups that you can learn from and grow.

(4) Give yourself deadlines- I've found that deadlines force me to think about my goals and how to achieve them. It also helps me to prioritize tasks so I can use my time wisely. If you find that giving yourself deadlines makes you feel pressured, don't worry, that pressure is the little push you need to achieve your goals. You can always give yourself a small reward after meeting a deadline.

(5) Stop procrastinating- Guilty. I know all about sitting on my bed in a wet towel, staring at the wall for 30 minutes just because I said I would do something after I took a shower. It's these little delays that may appear to be harmless that negatively affect our minds. How many times did you set out to complete a task and got caught up doing something else, totally unnecessary with your time? The trick is to keep moving and stick to your schedule. As the old saying goes, "Procrastination is the thief of time".
