A people famous for advancements in art, architecture, astronomy and philosophy was also quite prominent for their fixation with elegance and physical refinement. We've all heard stories highlighting the beauty of Greek Goddesses and seen paintings depicting their perfect glowing skin. It's hard to imagine how the Ancient Greeks lived in a time when modern medicine, pharmaceuticals and high end skincare brands were not even a dream yet they managed to maintain flawless complexions. These days we visit dermatologists, estheticians, some follow seven step skincare routines, we also have brands like La Mer, Caudalie and Fresh to rely on for top of the line skincare products. Apart from high end skincare we have access to a plethora of makeup products that promise a flawless face and radiant glow. So if Greek women didn't have Nars Sheer Glow Foundation or Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist then how did they achieve skin worth remembering thousands of years later? One of the oldest natural remedies used by the Ancient Greeks for wound healing, clear skin and digestive issues still serves as a staple in kitchens today. This golden liquid, as the Greeks knew, is so much more than a natural sweetener. Honey in its purest form or Raw Honey has far greater benefits than being merely an additive just to liven up your cup of tea.
Some benefits of raw honey to the skin are:
Honey contains antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties beneficial to wound healing therefore making it quite effective in the treatment of acne scars and active acne.
It's a natural moisturizer- The humectants present in honey preserves the water content of your skin. Hydrated, luminous skin is less likely to develop issues such as flaking, peeling, wrinkles and fine lines as much as dehydrated skin.
Aids in anti ageing of the skin- Apart from being an effective hydrator, the probiotics and antioxidants found in honey protect your skin from environmental stressors like sun damage which cause premature aging.
Honey is a gentle exfoliator- Gluconic acid found in honey makes it ideal for washing away dead skin cells to reveal a brighter glow without damaging the surface of your skin.
