Bored at Home? 5 Productive Things to Do While You're Social Distancing

Social Distancing. Whether we like it or not this is what is necessary to slow down and ultimately stop the spread of this virus. It's somewhat amazing to me to think that the future of the world and our ability to recover from this tragedy depends on us solely staying away from each other...introverts this is your time to shine. For others, it's not so easy. I'm truly baffled by the way some people are complaining and furthermore, totally disregarding instructions from the relevant authorities. What I think citizens are not grasping is the mere fact that the sooner we comply, the faster we can recover from this. Ignoring the call for social distancing prolongs the lifespan of this virus and worsens the effects it holds on our country and the world. Simply put, STAY HOME if you want things to get back to normal.

You can take this opportunity to accomplish something you would otherwise be too busy to do in your normal routine.

Self Care- Pay attention to the areas you know you always needed to make more time for and take a moment to pamper yourself. Checkout my 'Self Care Sunday' series for more on self care.

Declutter Your Space- No matter how much you clean there are always unnecessary things you hold on to longer than you should. You may want to consider going through your closet and getting rid of items you haven't worn in years. Perhaps you may find something you can donate to someone less fortunate. If you have children, do the same with their closets and toys and be sure to thoroughly sanitize all items before donating. Examine other areas of your home that you typically neglect or places where junk tends to pile up. Take a look at your 'catch all' places like your kitchen island or that one junk drawer you tend to stuff mail or phone chargers in. What about 'The Chair'? You know, that random chair you throw clothes on, surprise it and put away the clothes.

Sharpen Your Cooking Skills- No matter how good of a cook you are, there's always room for improvement. Perhaps you're not a good cook or you don't know how to cook at all, hey you can't go to the restaurants anyway so you might as well try. I know the curbside pickup and home delivery is tempting but being able to feed yourself is a basic survival skill, you're better off refining your ability. I mean, if the situation worsens, you don't want to resort to eating corn out of a can because you don't know how to cook.

Read- In this technological era where visual entertainment is so readily accessible we are not impressed to read as much as before. It's effortless to pull up a YouTube video or listen to a podcast, audiobook or even the news. Reading has consistently been beneficial to cognitive mental stimulation, memory improvement and stress relief as well.

Pray/ Meditate- Whatever your beliefs are, now is a good time to get in touch with our Divine Creator. Working on yourself and fertilizing your spirituality reaps beneficial rewards that will foster positivity and mental balance.
