5 Skin Boosting Benefits Of Rosehip Oil

Who would have thought an oil originating from the stem of a rose bush in Chile would one day be a trendy Royal fav? Rosehip oil boasts amazing skin benefits and we can totally understand why it's a staple in Kate Middleton's skincare routine. Made from the rosa canina rose bush, rosehip oil is a natural antioxidant containing essential fatty acids such as Omega 3, 6,9 and is loaded with Vitamins A and C as well. This multipurpose oil has restorative properties to maintain skin's moisture balance thereby reducing the signs of ageing. Let's take a look at five exceptional benefits of Rosehip Oil:

  1. It is hydrating- Because of the high levels of fatty acids present in this oil, it makes an exceptional moisturizer.

  2. Gentle exfoliating properties- It is a natural source of Vitamin A, also known as retinol which is prominent for increasing cell turnover, consequently leading to smoother skin.

  3. Rosehip Oil aids collagen formation- Rosehips are loaded with Vitamin C that boosts collagen production and cell regeneration.

  4. It is calming- The Vitamin E and polyphenols in Rosehip Oil acts as an anti inflammatory and is great for treating skin conditions like rosacea and acne.

  5. Helps scar reduction- It's high consistency of linoleic acid makes it ideal for treating hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, sun damage and even surgery scars.

If you fancy upping your skincare game, here are my top Rosehip Oil picks:

Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil Amazon.com US$19.99

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rosehip Seed Oil Sephora.com US$9.80 Also sold at Amazon.com

The Ordinary products can be sourced in T&T through various beauty retailers such as Bella Russe Store

Buttered Up Organics Rosehip & Vitamin C Facial Oil TT$300

This brand is currently running a special on Pure Cold Pressed Rosehip Oil without the added Vitamin C for TT$100

Although Rosehip Oil is known to be suitable for all skin types- Normal, oily, dry, combination and sensitive, I am nevertheless apprehensive when trying new products. As long as you have sensitive skin like myself, it is crucial to START SLOWLY with any type of oil. Do a patch test for a few days on the inside of your elbow. Once this does not cause a negative reaction you can move on to your face. I also advise against going all in, what I typically do is use the product twice per week or whenever I feel like my skin needs a boost.
